Dr. David Costello has spent the majority of his classroom teaching experience at the primary/elementary level. David also served in a number of roles at the board and department level, such as numeracy interventionist, numeracy coach, numeracy leader and curriculum consultant. He has contributed to Prince Edward Island’s mathematics education field for a number of years. Recently, David has moved into the role of vice-principal where he focuses on instructional leadership.
In addition to this, David has instructed numerous university level courses that focused on a range of topics (curriculum, differentiation, mathematics, language arts) and conducted special projects for the Faculty of Education. He facilitates professional learning sessions for his province and out-of-province schools in the area of mathematics and school development.
David’s research situates mathematics as a literacy and supports teachers in leveraging literacy-based instruction into mathematics. David has presented his research and practice at provincial, national and international conferences, in literacy and mathematics, and has written numerous educational articles. David is currently writing a series of books for Rubicon Publishing that will be released in the Winter of 2019.
